A tale of two weddings

Wedding One:

The groom was disappointed at the end of the day that his Mum had left the party early to go to bed. He noticed that she wasn’t smiling in many of the wedding photos.

Wedding Two:

The friends of the bride and groom were upset that they had to use the back of their van to take their son to the toilet and that they needed to leave early before the speeches.

Guests at a wedding seated at tables and raising their glasses for a toast.

The first wedding was my own wedding; the son in the second wedding was my son.

My Mum had early-onset Parkinson’s disease with high levels of anxiety. She died in 2022 and I never got to apologise for not making our wedding more accessible and enjoyable for her.

The son in the second wedding is my own son. He was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was 3. He was already in a wheelchair at the age of 10, when we were invited to this wedding.
