What is an Access Audit?

An access audit is an assessment of how accessible and inclusive a built environment is when measured, at a particular moment in time, against relevant good practice guidance and standards.

The audit will record observations and measurements from a site inspection and consider these against the requirements and recommendations from the relevant legislation, standards and good practice guidance to assess the following:

(i) whether reasonable provision is made for people to gain access to the building;

(ii) whether reasonable provision is made for people to use the building and its facilities;

(iv) whether the design of the building welcomes everyone, regardless of their characteristics or identity; and

(iii) whether reasonable provision is made for the early warning of fire for disabled people, and appropriate means of escape by disabled people in case of fire.
